Kitchen Reno Part One

For the last three and a half weeks, Chez Summers has undergone a transformation, namely the destruction and gradual reconstruction of our kitchen. As promised to my colleagues yesterday I am sharing with all a little visual show of the work that's gone into this project so far.

Week One - Wanton Destruction

I refer to this as the traditional "before" photo.

And here is the "in progress" shot.

Week Two - We painted

The colour we used was called pickle. Upon reflection Steff thinks it's more of pistachio.

Week Three - It's all about the floor

Clod makes like a chameleon and attempts to blend in with the surroundings. In this case the sub floor.

And then there was the tiling, glorious tiling.

Week four - I now want my normal life back. Now. Right now.

I hit a bit of a wall this week, but I can see the end of the tunnel. We grouted on the weekend - not much to show there really. Today we receive the new cabinets and begin installation.

Stay tuned for more!

Tid bits

Before running off to a meeting I need to relieve myself of some thoughts:

Yay

Boo

Huh?

Oh yeah, Go Celtic! They held AC Milan to a scoreless draw at home in Parkhead earlier this week. Now on to San Siro and, please, please, please, victory!

I won't hold my breath

The PM succeeded in inserting about five toes into his chops yesterday before he was cut off by shouts of "shame" by the opposition bench. A partisan I am - that's no secret. But yesterday reminded me about the time I really did something wrong as a kid. The reprimand that really hurt was the one that didn't include a cross word or a grounding. It was the loss of faith that always meant something worse. "I'm not mad, I'm just so very disappointed." The PM attempted, and frankly succeeded in diminishing the decorum that fronts as debate in the House of Commons yesterday. Regardless of your political leanings it's fair to say that he should own up to it today.

Three years and counting!

On a snowy day three years ago Steff and I hitched our wagons together and haven't looked back once. This anniversary is particularly noteworthy as we are expecting a new addition to the Summers clan. Yes you read right true believers, we're having a baby!

My home is my castle

Week three of the six week kitchen reno job at Chez Summers continued this past weekend. The job? Installing floor tiles. Nothing is more fun for me that using the wet tile saw.

What's left you may ask? Grouting, curing and sealing the floor. Then, while we wait on the delivery of the new cabinets and cupboards, we intall new lighting. Once the cabinets are in, then comes the sink and plumbing, and then we bring in the countertop guys. At some point, I will add a backsplash and crown moulding - but I'm not in a rush there. Fun, fun, fun. So far we are on schedule. The only thing that could stop me now would be a federal election.

Send in the army

Here deep in the midst of Yorkville at the Daisy confines I find myself yearning for warmer weather. I eagerly await those days when I can shake my head as I watch little dogs in their owners' carryall bag, or cheer for them as they try to escape a Ferrari or Lamborghini. Because here in the heart of T.O.'s foofoo consumerism I can attest to the fact that everything is buried under snow. It's proof to me that no one in Toronto's works department gives a fart about our fair city's upper crust establishments. Who will take up the cause of Pusateri's, Remy's and Sassafraz (posthumously of course)? Send in the army I say.

Bye Bye Bourque

Warren has been after Bourque for some time now, calling him on his politically paid headlines. I won't go into the background. Others have done that already. Now Bourque has taken Warren off his blogroll. Boo hoo.

Admittedly I had previously sought to get this blog onto Pierre's roll. His caveat was that it had to be reciprocal. For months now I've linked to Bourque, with no reciprocation. Well no more. Big Deal? No - this isn't a powerhouse blog like some others. I would need to publish regularly to warrant the traffic. Sour grapes? Nah, not really. I link to plenty other sites and don't have a reciprocal arrangement. I do it because I like the sites, and think those that view my blog would be interested too. So, www.bourque.org? No more. www.dailycanuck.com? Yep.

UPDATE: Wait a tick. I just discovered that your friendly neighbourhood Sixth Estate IS listed on the Bourque blogroll. That must be a very very recent development. What do you know. I guess it won't be up for long. Sigh.
